Kathleen Serafin started Specialized Insurance Assistance (SIA)
and Provider Plus over twenty years ago out of the basement of
her home. Provider Plus was incorporated in 1992. While working as office manager
for a private physician and consulting for a large HME-medical
supply and institutional pharmacy, Kathy saw a needed service for the elderly. That
service was a friendly,
knowledgeable person to assist with the reimbursement
maze that flowed between HMOs, PPOs, Medicare & Medicaid, secondary
insurers, and out-of-pocket expenses to these individuals.
Kathy continues this community service, pro bono, on a referral
basis from past clients and for friends and family.
Shortly after
going out on her own, Kathy was joined by her two sons, John and
Jeff. The "two boys" have each been at her side in
the health care arena for more than sixteen years. During
this time the company has grown in the extended care home medical
equipment arenas. Jeff is responsible for the operation of
the Joint Commission accredited Home Medical Equipment (HME)
division which comprises six retail locations plus the operations
for the extended care division headquartered on Watson Road.
John is directly responsible for sales and marketing in the
extended care marketplace (SNF/LTC) with a passion toward people
with developmental disabilities (MR/DD) whether that person
resides in the community, a group home or a state-run
center. John is indirectly involved in the sales for the HME
division through his marketing efforts with Provider Plus's five
account managers calling on the multiple facets within the
professional healthcare environment.
Provider Plus opened its first
handicapped accessible retail showroom and distribution center in
1994. In September of 2002 the current corporate home to
Provider Plus was completed on property
that was purchased to house the ever-expanding business.
This Watson Road location is greater than 22,000 sq. ft. and
serves multiple functions: a retail showroom, customer service
center, claims processing for all locations and distribution to
all LTC and MR/DD customers as well as being the hub of
distribution for the HME division. In October of 2004
Provider Plus opened a second retail showroom in O'Fallon,
Missouri and then a third location in Festus, Missouri in December
of 2005. 2006 had Provider Plus moving outside the St. Louis
metropolitan area with a new showroom and distribution center in
Poplar Bluff, Missouri. In 2007 Provider Plus had two major
expansions. One was a move to expand the O'Fallon location
in order to increase the retail showroom space and gain an additional distribution center
for home medical equipment. Two, Provider Plus acquired a
medical equipment company based in Washington, Missouri that added
another showroom in a geographic area that has a rapidly expanding
population. 2008 has Provider Plus crossing the Mississippi
River and opening our first Illinois showroom and distribution in
Belleville, Illinois. Please stop by any of our locations to
see, test and trial the latest in medical equipment for your home!
Today, Provider Plus is 100 plus
employees strong - doing on a corporate level what Kathy started
for individuals. Without the tremendous commitment from all
the members of the Provider Plus family, we could not have
achieved the growth and maintained the level of service that the
company has achieved. The companies service retail
customers, hospitals, HMO's, developmental centers, nursing homes,
pharmacies and physicians.
With the ever-changing scenes of
America's healthcare system, SIA and Provider Plus have managed to
secure a forefront position as the most knowledgeable and service
oriented company in their field.
We're
family, we're local and we care!
